Title: Assistant Coach

Coach Randall was named Assistant Track Coach at Lane in the Fall of 2023 to help oversee the distance runners. In his first season his distance men won NWAC individual championships in the 1500 meters, the 3000 meter steeplechase, the 10000 meters, contributed a leg on the championship winning 4x400 meter relay team, and earned an All American Honor in the 5000 meters. He also coached the NWAC champion in the women’s 5000 and 10000 meters.

John was named Lane’s assistant cross country coach for the men and women in the Summer of 2023. In his first year at Lane, he helped guide the men’s team to the Southern Region Championship and a runner up placing at the NWAC Championships. Two of his athletes earned All-American Honors as well. He assisted the women’s team to a third-place podium spot at the NWAC Championships as well as an All-American Honor on their team.

Prior to coaching cross country and track at Lane community college John coached locally at the high school level. In cross country he coached six boys teams to the OSAA State Championships with four top ten finishes. His girls’ teams qualified for the OSAA State Championships six times with 5 top ten finishes. On the track he coached numerous athletes to the OSAA State Championships.

John is a former Lane Titan athlete, he was the 2002 Most Outstanding men’s cross country athlete. He took a break from competing to serve a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Guatemala. He returned to Lane in 2007 and was the Most Inspirational men’s cross country athlete. On the track he was a 2-time NWAC Championship finalist competitor in the 800 meters and the 4x400 meter relay. He went on to become a walk-on athlete at the University of Oregon.

John loves creating a fun, race-day like atmosphere and intensity in workouts. He specializes in middle distance training and race tactics. He also volunteers with the Oregon Track Club youth cross country program.

John grew up locally and attended Sheldon High School where he was a 4-year varsity athlete in cross country and track. Before that he competed in USATF Junior Olympics for Track City Track Club beginning at age 10. His wife Nikky is an artist and an educator. They have a daughter, Lori, three sons, Jett, Jax, and Jace, a German shepherd named Agent Chloe and a cat named Bruce Wayne.
