Coach Sheley has built the Titans program in his own image. His teams play aggressive, up-tempo basketball on offense and hardnosed player-to-player defense. Lane players have excelled in the classroom, in the community, and on the floor. The record of the program under Sheley’s leadership speaks volumes: 628-137 record at Lane (.821), the most wins by a Titan basketball coach; twenty-two straight 20-win seasons (covid excluded); twelve Southern Region Titles; six 30 win seasons 04-05, 05-06, 12-13, 15-16, 22-23, 23-24; and twenty straight NWAC Tournament appearances which includes a NWAC record six championships. If all that isn’t enough, the program is currently 205-12 at home since 2002, which included an unprecedented 84 game home winning streak from 2002-11.
Sheley was named Lane’s fifth head basketball coach in the summer of 1999. Prior to Lane, Greg coached at Butte College in Oroville, CA (1992-98) where he had already established himself as one of the best young coaches in the game. While at Butte, his programs won three conference championships, made it to the State Championship tournament twice, had two 30 win seasons, and compiled a 161-67 record (.706).
During his college playing days, Sheley earned basketball and baseball letters and was twice selected to the all conference teams at Sierra Junior College before continuing his athletic career at California State University-Chico, where he was a guard/wing for the Wildcat’s basketball team. Sheley graduated from CSU-Chico with a BA in Physical Education in 1990 and later returned to receive his MA in 1995.
Greg was born and raised in Chico CA, where he was a high school standout in basketball and baseball. His wife, Sharrie, also works at Lane as a health instructor. They have three children: Kerrisa (27), Kaylin (23), and Nathan (17).
