The Lane Titans Women's Basketball team beat the Umpqua Riverhawks 88-71 Wednesday night to take sole control of first place in the NWAC Southern Region.
The Lane Titans came into the matchup at 20-0 on the season but ranked #2 in the NWAC, only behind Umpqua, who sat at #1 with a 19-0 record.
In a rematch of the 2024 NWAC Championship game, that the Titans won 62-49, the result was similar.
Both teams traded blows at the start, with neither team able to make an extended scoring run.
The Titans led 17-15 at the end of the first quarter.
The teams traded baskets once again, leading to a tie at 22-22 shortly into the second.
Back-to-back threes by Micah Wicks and Kya Kanoho gave the Titans a 28-22 lead, a lead that the Riverhawks struggled to recover from.
A big first half from Kya Kanoho gave the Titans a 42-30 lead at halftime.
Kanoho scored 17 points on 7-9 shooting in what was her best half of the Titans season.
The Titans defense had held reigning NWAC Player of the Year Brooklyn Fely to just 4 points on 2-7 shooting in the first half.
The second half opened with a three by Emma McDonald, extending the Titan lead to 15, but the Riverhawks continued to answer.
The lead got down to as little as 5 in the third quarter, but timely buckets by multiple Titans kept the comeback at bay.
Sophomores Micah Wicks and Emma McDonald led the way in the second half as the Titans extended their lead to as many as 21 before eventually taking the game 88-71.
All five Titan starters finished the game in double figures, with Emma McDonald leading with 25 points.
Kya Kanoho finished with 21 points.
Micah Wicks pitched in with 13 points and 12 assists, 8 of which came in the second half.
Maitlin Young continued her scoring streak with 17 points.
And finally Lillee Duffin filled up the stat sheet again with 12 points, 14 rebounds and 6 assists.
The Titans now fully control their fate in the Southern Region, but will face a tough test on Saturday as they travel to Vancouver to take on Clark College.
