The Lane Titans Women's Basketball team beat the Peninsula Pirates in overtime Friday night.

Peninsula came in to the game today ranked #3 in the NWAC Preseason Coaches Poll, and lived up to the billing.

In what is a rare preseason meeting between two premier NWAC programs, the Pirates gave the Titans all they could handle.

Both teams traded baskets throughout the first half, with neither team gaining an advantage of more than 6 points.

The game featured 16 ties and 12 lead changes.

Peninsula took a two point lead going into the second quarter, 23-21.

The Titans answered with a run of their own to take a 6 point lead midway through the second quarter but could not pull away, allowing the Pirates to get within 2 at halftime, 39-37.

The third quarter featured more back and forth runs with neither team able to gain separation.

Finally, in the fourth quarter, the Titans appeared to break through and open the game up, taking a 9 point lead early in regulation.

Foul trouble plagued both teams, and caught up to the Titans in the fourth as they gave up an 11-2 run to knot the game back up at 68-68.

The game appeared to be slipping away from Lane, as a technical foul down 1 with under 30 seconds to go seemed to seal the game for the Pirates.

However, Peninsula missed the two technical free throws and the Titans forced a turnover to gain possession of the ball down just 1.

Kya Kanoho was fouled and made one of two free throws to send the game to overtime.

Lillee Duffin made her prescence down low felt throughout the game, but truly shined in overtime, as she was able to open up the period with an offensive rebound putback to give the lead back to the Titans.

A big time steal by Emma McDonald and finish by Micah Wicks put the Titans up for good, as they ended with a 81-76 win over a tough Peninsula team, thanks to some more timely offensive rebounds by Lillee Duffin.

The Titans next take on Blue Mountain on Sunday in Pendleton, Oregon.
