Coach Yorges was named Lane's head track and field coach in the summer of 2023. In his first season at the helm, he guided the men’s team to the Southern Region Championship and to their tenth consecutive NWAC Championship. The men earned 20 All American Honors as well as Elijah Dominique being named the Championship athlete of the meet. The women’s team also won the Southern Region Championship and finished as the NWAC runner’s up with a significantly reduced roster size. Sara McKen was named the female athlete of the meet and the Titan women earned 17 All American Honors.
Prior to coaching at Lane Chris led multiple high school teams to podium placings at the OSAA State Championships as well as a State Championship during the covid year. He has coached athletes that have won State championships in several events and specialized in the middle distances.
Coach Yorges was named Lane’s head cross country coach for the men and women in 2023. In his first year at Lane, he guided the men’s team to the Southern region Championship and a runner up placing at the NWAC Championships. Two of his athletes earned All American Honors as well. He led the women’s team to a third-place podium spot at the NWAC Championships as well as having another All-American Honor on their team.
Prior to coaching cross country at Lane community college Chris compiled an impressive record locally at the high school level. He coached nine boys’ teams to the OSAA State championships with six top ten finishes. His girls’ teams qualified for the OSAA State championships 11 times with eight top ten finishes including a runner up placing and a top five regional ranking in those years.
During his college career Chris competed for BYU earning multiple podium placings at Conference Championships, four first team All-Conference honors and a Scholastic All American.
Chris has continued his love of running as a master’s athlete and has the unique distinction of having won 13 USATF National Championships in the 3000-meter steeplechase.
Chris grew up locally and attended Churchill High School where he was a standout in cross country, wrestling and track. His wife Cheryl is an educator in the 4j school district. They have three daughters, Whitney (son in law Trevor Morreall, Ashley and Nicki and a husky named Kaya.
