Lane takes the lead at NWAC track and field championships

GRESHAM — Lane Community College won five individual events and took large leads in the overall team standings on what was a dominant opening day of the Northwest Athletic Conference track and field championship meet at Mt. Hood Community College on Monday.

The men's team benefited from individual wins by Andy Muha in the 10,000 meters, Jonah Tactay in the long jump and Justin Petz in the pole vault as the Titans finished the day with 83 points — 26 more than second-place Spokane.

Muha won his race in 32 minutes, 9.57 seconds to win by more than 33 seconds. Lane's Jesse Todd was third in 33:31.53.

Tactay won his event with a jump of 22 feet, 10 inches, and Petz cleared 16-4 in his win. David Sanchez-Perez was third at 15-1/4.

Delaney Fields also won the pole vault for the Lane women, clearing 12-1 1/2. Emily Thomason was third at 11-9 3/4. Paris Newdahl won the shot put with a heave of 41-7.

The Titan women finished with 75 points to end the day with a comfortable lead on second-place Clackamas (52).

The meet concludes on Tuesday starting at 10 a.m.
