Career-high 36 from Cool lead Titans by Cougars

The Titans used a big 1st half and a career-high 36 points from Tarik Cool in 101-92 win at Clackamas.

How it happened: The Titans scored five of the first seven points and gained their first double-digit lead 5:48 into the 1st half, 14-4. Approximately six minutes later the Titans 10-point lead grew to 22, 37-15, after a Tarik Cool three.

The Cougars went on an 8-0 run in less than one minute and reduce the Titans lead to 13, 39-26. A 17-10 Titans run over the final 5:04 gave the Titans a 20-point half time lead, 56-36.

The Titans shot 53.1 percent, made 11-of-17 threes and made 11-of-14 free throws. Tarik Cool had 22 points, four assists and two rebounds; Rodney Hounshell was the other Titan in double-figures with 12 points on 4-of-7 from the field and three.

The Titans were plus two in the first 2:47 of the 2nd half after a Tarik Cool three, but Clackamas went on a 15-2 run to the 11:47 mark and reduce their deficit to eight, 68-60.

Tarik Cool made another three with 7:31 remaining and extended their lead to 14, 83-69. Clackamas quickly responded with a 6-0 run over the next 1:21 to reduce the lead to eight again, 83-75. Eight was as close as the Cougars would get the rest of the way as the Titans made 3-of-5 free throws to close out their win, 101-92.

The Titans shot 48 percent, made 8-of-12 threes and 13-of-17 free throws. 12 fouls that led to 18 free throws and nine turnovers that led to nine more shots allowed than took allowed Clackamas to be plus 11 in the half. Tarik Cool added 14 more points, three assists and two rebounds; Will Graves was the other Titan in double-figures with 12 points on 4-of-5 from the field and three.

What/who stood out: 101 points is the 13th 100-point game…50.9 percent shooting is the fourth straight 45 plus percent game…19 made threes is the second most and the most vs an NWAC opponent…24 made free throws is tied for the most during conference play…31 free throw attempts is most in eight games…19 turnovers is a season-high and first double-digit game in five games…24 fouls is only the second time in nine games with 20 plus.

Tarik Cool had a career-high 36 points, seven assists and four rebounds…Rodney Hounshell had 15 points three rebounds and an assist…Will Graves returned to the starting lineup for the second time during conference play and scored 15 points (third straight double-digit game after only three all season), two rebounds and an assist…Lucas Wilson had 11 points nine rebounds, two assists and a steal…Cody Mathis fouled-out in only 18 minutes but made an impact with six points, 11 rebounds and a block.

What it means: The Titans are in sole possession of 1st place at 13-2 as Umpqua doesn't play until Sunday. They're 24-3, second fewest losses in the NWAC.

What's next: The Titans host 2nd place Umpqua (19-8, 12-2) on Monday at 7:30 p.m. The winner wins the Southern Region.
