Titans get swept after 3-2 loss vs LBCC

Matt Dallas, baseball
Matt Dallas went 1-for-3 with the Titans lone RBI in 15-1 loss vs Skagit Valley at Tacoma Super Regional on Friday, May 17, 2019.

The Titans played the Roadrunners tough, but loose by a run, 3-2.

How it happened: Again Linn-Benton started the game off with a run. A walk with two outs and a single that appeared to have hit the diving Skyler Vail in right field allowed a run to score all the way from first.

In the bottom-of-the 2nd Matt Dallas singled and advanced to second on a sacrifice from Jack Swisher. Skyler Vail then singled in Matt Dallas to even the score a one.

In the top-of-the 4th the Roadrunners got their final two runs on their third single of the inning.

A single from Jack Swisher was all the Titans could muster in the bottom half-of-the 4th.

The Titans got the tying runs in scoring position with one out after singles by Nathan Sprenger and Curran Mitzel and a sacrifice bunt from Matthew Aguilar. Takanori Shimizu popped-up to third and Henry Lovekamp grounded-out to second to end the inning still down 3-1.

Again the Titans got the tying runs on base in the bottom-of-the 6th with a one single by Matt Dallas and a walk by Jack Swisher, but a well hit ball that stayed up long enough for another great catch in left field and a fielder's choice ended the threat.

Leading off the final inning Curran Mitzel homered on a 0-2 pitch to right field for his first career homerun. Unfortunately a ground out and a pair of pop-ups ended the game, 3-2.

What/who stood out: Two runs are the fewest in a loss since March 15…two offensive strikeouts ties three other games for the fewest… a homerun extends their streak to eight straight games with and XBH…two errors makes six straight games with an error; all six have been multi-error games.

Matt Dallas went 2-of-3 with a run scored and threw five three run, eight hit, three walk, four strikeout innings…Jack Swisher went 1-of-1 with a walk and sac bunt…Skyler Vail was 1-of-3 with an RBI…Nathan Sprenger was 1-of-3…Curran Mitzel went 2-of3 with a run, RBI off his first career HR…Charlie Patterson relieved Dallas and threw 1.1 scoreless innings with a strikeout.. Michael Moore finished the game with .2 of an inning and a strikeout.

What it means: The Titans get swept and fall to 6-4 in conference and 12-12 overall. They are five games behind LBCC and tied with Mt. Hood, but in third with three more losses since Mt. Hood have only played four games.

What's next: The Titans make up two home games with Chemeketa on Wednesday, April 17 with first pitch of game one at 1:30 p.m.
