Lane Community College Athletic Director, Greg Sheley, has announced the hiring of Chris Yorges as their new head Men's and Women's Cross Country coach. Yorges takes over for Bill Steyer who recently resigned to spend more time with his family.
"We are excited to have Chris be a part of the Lane Athletics family," said Sheley. "He brings tremendous knowledge and experience to our Cross Country programs. We are confident Chris will do an outstanding job for us."
"I want to thank Athletic Director Greg Sheley and the search committee for the opportunity to take over the Lane Community College Cross Country programs. My leadership will reflect my passion and desire to help young people improve in life and in the classroom," said Yorges.
Most recently, Chris spent 20 years as a head Cross Country coach at the high school level guiding his teams to the OSAA State Championship meet each year. Yorges' teams have also excelled in the classroom throughout his career. Most recently, his boys teams, at Churchill High School, achieved the highest GPA of all OSAA fall sports teams for four consecutive years.
Chris graduated from Churchill High School and went on to compete at Brigham Young University where he received a BA in American Studies in 1991. Chris later received his MBA from Northwest Christian University in 2013. Yorges and his wife Cheryl have been married for 30 years and have 3 daughters, Whitney, Ashley and Nicki.
