EUGENE, Ore.- After 7 years as head Track and Field coach, and 8 years as head Cross County coach, Bill Steyer is resigning his positions to pursue other interests and spend more time with family.
"It is with great appreciation and a heavy heart that I am moving on from my role at Lane Community College," Steyer said. "I have enjoyed my time at Lane and will forever be grateful for this chapter in my life."
Steyer led the Titans to 14 NWAC titles as a head coach. Seven Track and Field titles (4 men, 3 women) and seven Cross Country Titles (4 men, 3 women) during his tenure.
"We want to thank Bill for the time and energy he brought to this program," said Director of Athletics Greg Sheley. "He is a dedicated and hard working coach who raised the level of expectation in both programs. He will be greatly missed."
Lane has appointed Kelly Blair-LaBounty as interim head Track and Field coach. Kelly has served as Steyer's assistant coach for the past three seasons. Previously, she served as an assistant coach at Seattle Pacific (2003-2005) and at University of Oregon from 2005-2008). Blair LaBounty is a former NCAA heptathlon champion (1993) and is a two-time Olympian (1996, 2000).
"I am excited and honored to represent Lane Community College as their new head Track and Field coach," said Blair-LaBounty.
"We are very fortunate to have someone the caliber of Kelly to lead our Track and Field program into the future," said Sheley. "It's not often that you can have a two time Olympian ready to take over."
Blair-LaBounty attended Prosser High School in Prosser Washington and graduated from the University of Oregon with a degree in Finance and Management. Kelly is married to Matt LaBounty and the couple have two children, Jacob and Lucas.
