Spokane Uses 5-Run 6th Inning to Defeat Lane 8-5 in Game 3 of NWAC Baseball Championship

LONGVIEW, Wash. – The #1 Spokane Sasquatch scored five runs in the sixth inning to defeat the #2 Lane Titans 8-5 on Thursday at David Story Field.

The Sasquatch threatened in the early innings but were unable to scratch across more than one run as they trailed 3-1 through five innings. Lane jumped on East Region MVP Garrett Gores for two runs in the first and one run in the third before Gores settled in for the six-inning quality start. The Titans got their first run after the first two batters as the first batter walked before Bryan Rojas laced a single that got past the centerfielder, leading to a run.

In the big sixth inning, Spokane used a string of three-straight RBI singles by Gores, B. Vaughn and C. Marshall, with Marshall driving in two, to break the game open.

Overall, the Sasquatch recorded 12 hits and were dynamic on the base paths with nine stolen bases. Jaxson Davis went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, an RBI and two stolen bases. Marshall went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases while Vaughn also scored two runs with two stolen bags.

Gores struck out six batters on the mound over 6.1 innings as he earned the win. Lane starter Caleb Archibold threw 4.1 strong innings, allowing just one run before the bullpen faltered.

The Titans were led offensively by Rojas who went 4-for-4 with two runs scored. Nate May had a hit and two RBI.

The Sasquatch move on in the winner's bracket of the tournament and will face the winner of Edmonds vs. Lower Columbia on Friday at 7:35 p.m. The Titans move down to the loser's bracket and will face the loser of Thursday's night cap on Friday at 12:35 p.m.
