The Lane Community College men's soccer team defeated region rival Chemeketa by a score of 2-1 to remain unbeaten in the south region and in 1 st place. Lane opened their scoring account with a direct cross from freshmen winger Hector Fandino, a graduate of local Willamette High School, to a well- positioned Yuki Yamaguchi who escorted the ball into the back of the net. The score put Lane up 1-0 and is Yamaguchi's 5 th goal of the season making him the second leading scorer in the region. Later in the Match Yamaguchi would provide the quality pass to help win the game.

"Yuki plays at speed, but what's outstanding is how measured each touch of the ball is. Its fast and it is of the finest quality. When you combine that with the athletic ability of Dan on the other end of the cross it is very exciting to see us score that goal to win the game late. We've been calling the last 10 minutes of games 'Titan Time' because this has been a pattern for us."- Assistant coach Pete Peterson

Chemeketa drew a foul in Lane's penalty box and converted a penalty kick later in the match to make things even 1-1. It would take some tactical adjustments and sheer effort for Lane to earn the full three points on the day. Normally a defensive center back the team put freshman Daniel Latinovic in as striker who was able to finish on a cross from sophomore striker Yuki Yamaguchi. The 6 foot 5 Australian met the flighted ball at its apex to give the Lane Titans a last-minute goal and the difference in the game. The goal was a culmination of relentless attacking pressure from Lane who has been an accomplished
defensive and possession-based team but has recently struggled to score often and assert themselves.

"I felt that we were a little sloppy in the first half when it came to speed of play and patience on the ball, but in the second half we did well to play our style and control the pace. We could've done a better job taking shots on target and test their keeper, but overall I thought we played well as a team." -Sophomore midfielder Ryan Cruse
