No. 1 Titans play three games at CBC crossover

The Titans bounced back from their first loss against Lower Columbia and took the Pierce Holiday Invitational title by beating Wenatchee Valley, defending champions Walla Walla and Columbia Basin. They now head back to Washington to face Everett in the first of three games at the Columbia Basin crossover. The Titans will then face Centralia and host Columbia Basin.

Everett Trojans: The Trojans are 4-4 and are on a 1-game losing streak. The Trojans and Titans have no common opponents at this point, but the Trojans have play three games against the south and are 1-2; win against Clark and loses to Chemeketa and Linn-Benton.

The Trojans are a defense first team. They're 8th in the NWAC giving up 57.8 ppg. They hold opponents to a 35.2 percent shooting mark and 18.8 from three, 13th and 2nd best.

Offensively its been a struggle; averaging 56.3 ppg on only 19 made field goals and 6.1 made threes on 25.3 three-point attempts, ranking them 29th, 28th, 15th and 8th. Their best offensive game was a 78-52 victory over South Puget Sound.

The Trojans only go seven deep, but they do have three players averaging double-figures. They're led by Hannah Hezekiah, a 5-9 freshman forward, who is 5th in the NWAC in scoring at 19.3 ppg. She is 2nd in field goal attempts this season and she plays 37.5 mpg. She also averages 5.5 rpg, 3 apg, 2.8 spg and 1.6 bpg.

Centralia Trailblazers: The Blazers are 2-1 vs the south; wins over Linn-Benton and Clark and their lone loss was to 2nd ranked Umpqua by eight. The Titans beat the Blazers at home at the Titan Classic, 90-52. The Blazers only made 3-24 threes and shot 28.1 percent from the floor. Since then, they have made 9, 8, 13, 7 and 13 threes; while shooting 36 percent.  

They're 26th in made and attempted field goals due to 18.9 turnovers per game and five games with 20 or more free throw attempts.

The Blazers are led by Caitlin Yenne, a 5-9 freshman guard, who averages 13.7 ppg and makes 2.3 three a game. She didn't play in the Titan Classic and has only played in the last three games. She has been up and down in those games; with 24 points in her first game vs Umpqua, but three points against Blue Mountain and then 14 points vs Olympic.

Columbia Basin Hawks: The Hawks (6-2) loss to the Titans in their previous game and are 1-2 vs Southern Region teams; win vs Clackamas and loses to Mt. Hood and Lane. They're ranked 3rd in the NWAC.

The Hawks are 16th in scoring at 66.6 ppg; 6th in 3pt percentage and makes the 8th most three per game at 7.6 (they made 11 vs Lane). Overall, they are a below average rebounding team (28th), but they're 13th in offensive rebounds. They had their third straight 40 rebound game against the Titans after failing to 30 rebounds in the previous three games. They managed 15 offensive rebounds vs the Titans, but Lane grabbed 20 of their own.

The Hawks are led by Alexis Castro and Sara Ramirez. Castro, 5-2 sophomore guard, leads in scoring at 19.4 ppg (4th), assists, 3.9, and steals 3.6 (3rd). Castro also makes 3.5 threes per game and shoots 36.4 percent.

Ramirez is second on the Hawks in scoring at 16.1 ppg; she also leads in rebounding a 9.5 a game (10th). Ramirez, a 5-8 sophomore guard, also averages 2.5 apg and 2 spg.

Titans: They are 2-0 against ranked teams and are 7-1 overall. They've played four games away from Titan Coliseum and are 3-1. In those three wins, they got career-high in points from Megan Fossen, Kalina Rojas and Aolani Talamaivao-Calderon.  The Titans also made huge strides in taking care of the ball after 33 turnovers against Wenatchee Valley, they reduced that number to 20 and 12.

The Titans rank in the top-10 in 10 major categories; 84.4 ppg (2nd), 45.4 FG% (2nd), 7.9 3PT made/game (5th), 14.5 FT/game (5th), 15.6 Off rebound/game (9th), 20.6 apg (1st), 13.9 spg (3rd), 3.9 bpg (1st), 57.8 ppg allowed (8th), 33.8 percent allowed (4th).

It has been a collective effort for the Titans, with five players averaging double-figures and eight players with a double-digit scoring game. The Titans offense goes as Mya India Thomas and Megan Still go, though.

Mya India Thomas is the Titans leading scorer at 16.1 ppg and averages 3.8 apg and 1.9 spg. Despite being the leading scorer, she didn't lead in any of the three games at the Pierce Invite; instead she had her three highest assists games and the Columbia Basin title game being her best with eight assists. She was named tournament MVP for he overall contributions.

Megan Still is second at 15.5 ppg. She is leaned upon as the primary perimeter defender and rebounder. She averages 5.6 rpg and 3.4 spg (5th). She had her three worst scoring games at Pierce as a result of 32.2 percent shooting but did average 4.7 rpg and 3.3 spg in the tournament.

Another notable player for the Titans is Kylie Guelsdorf. She averages 10.8 ppg, but she is the primary distributer, averaging 5 apg (T-4th). Kylie Guelsdorf had a very strange game against Wenatchee Valley, she took 0 field goals attempts, but made 9-12 free throws; 16 of her 24 points at the Pierce Invite were from the line.

Start times: The Titans play Evertt on Friday at 5 p.m., Centralia Saturday at 2 p.m. and #3 Columbia Basin Sunday at 2 p.m.
