BSB | Game 2: Titans stay hot offensively in win

Corvallis, Ore. – After losing an offensive shootout in game one, the Titans pitching shut down Yakima Valley while their offense continued the way they finished game one with nine more runs and a 9-2 win.

How it happened

Bottom-2: The inning started with a walk drawn by Jaxon Woodhouse. Cole Frey then reached on an error. Curran Mitzel opened the scoring with a single that scored Woodhouse.

Cole Calnon followed Mitzel's single with a two-run double to give the Titans all the runs they would need.

Jayden Frank reached on a HBP to turn the lineup over with two on and no one out. Tyson Heinz and Matt Dallas were unable to take advantage, so that brought up Jack Swisher with two-on and two-out, and Swisher came through with an RBI-single to make it 4-0 Titans.

After a Swisher stolen base, the big blow of the inning came from Ethan Hixson who hit a three-run home run to make it 7-0.

Bottom-5: After a couple of quiet innings, the Titans got back on the board with an RBI-double from Cole Frey to make it 8-0.

Curran Mitzel then added the Titans ninth run with an RBI-single to score Frey.

Top-7: In the final frame, the Yaks got on the board with an RBI-single and RBI-double to eliminate a second shutout in four games for the Titans.

What stood out:

10 hits: Four games, four double-digit hit performances … 9 runs: three of four games with five or more runs … 2 runs allowed: Two runs allowed or fewer in three of four games; 2-0-1 when allowing two or fewer and 13 runs allowed in lone loss … 1 stolen base against: After conceding seven stolen bases in game one, the Titans led by Cole Frey, held Yakima Valley to one and with it only two runs.

Who stood out:

Jack Swisher: 2-4, a double, an RBI and a run scored … Ethan Hixson: 2-3, a walk, his first collegiate home run, three RBI's and two runs scored … Cole Frey: 1-3, a double, an RBI and two runs scored … Curran Mitzel: 3-3, an RBI and run scored … Cole Calnon: 1-3, a double, two RBI's and a run scored … Joe Ball: Started and went four shutout innings with one walk and seven strikeouts.

What it means: The Titans finish the weekend with a 2-1-1 record against two ranked teams. The Titans scored 24 runs scored and had a plus seven run differentials.

What's next: The Titans (2-1-1) travel to No. 6 Edmonds (1-3) this Saturday and Sunday with first pitch at 3:00 p.m. and 11:00 a.m. respectively.
