Adair Village, Ore. – The No. 8 Titans opened their 2020 season with a neutral site double header versus No. 3 Everett. The Titans got the winning run in the second thanks to a shutout performance from the pitching staff.

How it happened

2nd inning: Freshman Tyson Heinz drove in fellow freshman Ethan Hixson for the season opening run. Hixson reached base on a single in his first collegiate at-bat.

4th inning: Sophomore Takanori Shimizu singled and drove in Ethan Hixson for his second run scored. Hixson reached base after being hit by a pitch (HBP).

6th inning: Sophomore catcher Nathan Sprenger singled and drove in fellow sophomore's Matt Dallas and Jack Swisher who reached base via a double and walk respectively.

Ethan Hixson then followed up Sprenger single and drove him in for his first career run batted in (RBI) and made it 5-0 Titans.

What stood out:

9: All nine in the batting order reached base … 6: Six players reached base multiple times.

Who stood out:

Matt Dallas: 2-4, with a double, walk and run scored … Jack Swisher: 2-3, walk, sacrifice bunt and run scored … Nathan Sprenger: 2-5, two RBI's and a run scored … Ethan Hixson: 2-3, walk, HBP, two runs scored and an RBI … Curran Mitzel: 2-4 with a double … Tyson Heinz: 1-4 with an RBI … Cole Frey: Started and went 4 innings with three hits, no runs, one walk and five strikeouts … Cole Calnon: Picked up his first career win with 1.2 innings and no runs allowed.

What it means: It the first game of the season and with it being non-conference, the games are more important for chemistry since they do not affect the team's ability to make playoffs as the conference record determines that.

What's next: The Titans play Everett again in the second game of the double header.
