Titans lose women’s NWAC Final Four game

EVERETT, Wash. — The top-ranked Titan women gave up a seven-point halftime lead as Lane Community College lost to Wenatchee Valley, 84-81, in the semifinals of the Northwest Athletic Conference women's basketball tournament on Saturday at Everett Community College.

Kylie Guelsdorf's layup with 33 seconds left pulled the Titans to within a point of the lead, 82-81, but after a pair of made free throws by the Knights Riley Denton with 24 seconds left, Lane could only get off a missed 3-point try by Mya India Thomas in the waning seconds.

Guelsdorf scored 16 points to lead the Titans (27-4), who were up 46-39 at halftime and 63-60 heading into the fourth quarter. Kalina Rojas also had 13 points and 14 rebounds for Lane, Megan Still also scored 13 and Meagan Briggs added 10 points.

Ashlynn Burgess scored 24 to lead the Knights (26-5), who took the lead for good with 5:09 to play on a layup by Denton. Chastity Spady also had 23 points and Ashley Peralta scored 16.

Wenatchee Valley College plays Umpqua Community College for the NWAC title on Sunday at 2 p.m.
