No. 1 Titans get 23 from Thomas and win by 21 at Clackamas

The Titans got double-figures scoring from five players and easily beat Clackamas on the road, 90-69.

How it happened: The Titans scored the first seven points of the game and led 21-2 after only 3:36. The Cougars woke up offensively, but the Titans retained their double-digit lead after one, 32-19.

The Titans shot 66.7 percent from the floor and made 7-of-11 threes. Mya India Thomas had eight points off the bench; Megan Still was 3-of-3 and had eight points; Kylie Guelsdorf had six assists.

Clackamas scored the first seven points of the 2nd quarter and cut the Titans lead to six, 32-26, with 6:29 remaining. An 11-2 Titan run in the final 4:42 extended their lead back to double-digits, 46-33, at half.

The Titans struggled from the field at 25 percent and made only 1-of-7 threes. Megan Fossen had seven points and four rebounds; Meagan Briggs had four points and two rebounds.

It was six all through the first 3:45 of the 3rd quarter, but a Cougar run to the 4:50 mark cut the lead to 10, 57-47. The Cougars got within single-digits, 62-53, with 1:21 remaining but a 4-0 Titan run to close the quarter kept their lead at 13, 66-53.

The Titans shooting rebounded to 50 percent but only made 1-of-4 threes. Kalina Rojas had seven points and four rebounds; Kylie Guelsdorf had her first three points, three assists, two steals and a rebound.

After a 3-point play by Clackamas to open the 4th quarter, the Titans finished on a 24-13 run to seal the win, 90-69.

The Titans shot a solid 47.6 percent and made 2-of-5 threes. Seven Titans scored and 14 of their 24 points came from the bench. Mya India Thomas led with nine points, two rebounds, two steals and one assist off the bench.

What/who stood out: 90 points is the 12th 90-point game…46.7 percent shooting is the fifth straight game over 45 percent…11 made threes is the third time in five games in double-digits…45 rebounds is the sixth time in seven games over 40…14 offensive rebounds makes 27 of 28 games in double-digits…21 assists is the fourth of five games over 20…12 steals is the seventh straight and 11 of 12 games in double-digits…18 fouls is the most since their loss at Umpqua seven games ago.

Mya India Thomas had 23 points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals off the bench in only 22 minutes; this was her eighth 20-point game and third in four games; with the exception of two single-digit games, Thomas is averaging 28.25 ppg in only 24.25 mpg since returning to the bench…Megan Fossen had 15 points, eight rebounds and two steals…Kalina Rojas had 13 points and 10 rebounds for her seventh double-double and her 11th game with nine or more rebounds...Meagan Briggs had 12 points, six rebounds and two assists; she's averaging 12.3 ppg since becoming a starter six games ago…Megan Still had 10 points, three rebounds, one assists and one steal… Kylie Guelsdorf had seven points, 13 assists, six rebounds, three steals and a block; this was her fifth double-digit assist game and averages 7.7 apg in wins and 1.5 in two losses.

What it means: The Titans remain in 1st place at 14-1 and an NWAC-best 26-2 overall.

What's next: The Titans will host Umpqua (23-4, 12-2) on Monday March 4 at 5:30 p.m. The game will decide the Southern Region winner if Umpqua beat Portland at home tomorrow March 3.
