No.1 Titans get first double-double from Briggs in win vs SWOCC

The Titans returned home for a solid win over SWOCC, 79-55.

How it happened: The Titans led by as many as eight, 15-7, in the 1st quarter and led by four after a 5-1 SWOCC run to end the quarter.

The Titans shot 29.4 percent and held SWOCC to 27.8 percent. Meagan Briggs had three points and three rebounds in a start and Megan Still led with six points and added two rebounds.

The Titans gained a nine-point lead with 5:10 remaining in 2nd after Meagan Briggs made a jump shot. The lead was 13 after a pair of Kylie Guelsdorf free throws and a Mya India Thomas three with 1:51 remaining in the half. SWOCC made a three in the final minute and the Titans held a double-digit lead at half, 33-23.

The Titans shooting improved to 43.8 percent and their defense was good again, holding SWOCC to 21.4 percent shooting. Meagan Briggs had six points and three rebounds; Kalina Rojas had two points and six rebounds.

The Titans scored the first four points of the 3rd and maintained their double-digit lead throughout the quarter, leading by as many as 21. They led 57-37 after three.

The Titans shooting was solid again at 46.2 percent, but seven turnovers cost them possessions, but their 11-13 free throw mark made up for it; they held SWOCC to 27.3 percent shooting. Kylie Guelsdorf had six points, two rebounds and two assists; Maddy Carrier had six points, two rebounds and a steal off the bench.

Emma Jones made a three with 5:34 remaining in the 4th and gave the Titans their largest lead of the game at 26. A 10-1 SWOCC run to the 2:40 mark cut the lead to 17 points, 70-53. The Titans closed on a 9-2 run and won 79-55.

The Titans took better care of the ball with only two turnovers but struggled from three at 2-9 and shot 42.9 percent overall. SWOCC had their best shooting quarter but still struggled to a 33.3 percent mark. Emma Jones had five points, three rebounds, one assist and one steal off the bench; and six different players scored.

What/who stood out: 79 points scored is the second-straight sub-80 point game; six of previous seven were 80 plus…53 rebounds are second most this season and most in conference play; 54 vs Pierce were the most…15 turnovers is the eighth-straight game under 20 and the 15th of 16 games since their 33 and 20 turnover games at the Pierce Holiday Invite in December…six made threes is the seventh-straight sub-10 made game after four-straight 10 plus games.

Meagan Briggs had her first career double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds in only 16 minutes…Kalina Rojas had her fourth double-double (all in last five games) with 13 points and 10 rebounds…Kylie Guelsdorf played 30 minutes again and flirted with another triple-double with 13 points, nine assists and six rebounds…Emma Jones had seven points, five rebounds, two steals and a assist off the bench…Maddy Carrier had eight points (nine points in last seven games), four rebounds and two steals.

What it means: With one more game played than Umpqua, the Titans remain in 1st place in the south at 9-1 and 21-2 overall.

What's next: The Titans host 7th place Clark (5-16, 3-7) on Saturday at 2 p.m.
