Titans dominate 1st half behind 22 points from Thomas in 77-60 victory over 2nd place Mt. Hood

The Titans used a huge 1st half to take down visiting 2nd place Mt. Hood Saints 77-60.

How it happened: The Titans gained their first double-digit lead of the game less than five minutes into the game, 18-8. Amanda Tobey made a jump shot with less than 90 seconds to go and doubled up the Saints after one quarter, 30-15.

The Titans forced nine turnovers and held the Saints to 33.3 percent shooting. The Titans shot 50 percent, made four threes and all six of their free throws. Mya India Thomas had 14 points on 5-6 shooting and 4-5 from three.

The Titans stretched their lead to 20 points, 39-19, 3:24 into the 2nd. Neither team scored for the next 2:26, but Emma Jones made a three to extend the lead to 23. Megan Fossen made a layup in the final 10 seconds to give the Titans their largest lead of 26, 49-23.

Mt. Hood missed all seven of their threes and shot only 16.7 percent. The Titans again shot 50 percent and Mya India Thomas had eight more points.

The Saints and Titans trade a pair of layups to begin the 3rd, but neither scored for the next 2:38. The Saints finished the final 2:05 with 11-4 run and cut their deficit to 22, 66-44.

The Saints shooting massively improved to 47.4 percent and the Titans shooting dropped to 33.3 percent. Megan Fossen had nine points and three rebounds in the quarter.

The Saints used a 14-4 run in the middle of the 4th to cut the Titans lead to 15, 73-58. The Titans stretch the lead to six possessions to end the game.

The Saints shot 31.6 percent, but still outscored the Titans 16-11 due to a 25 percent shooting mark for the Titans. Mya India Thomas bounced back from a one point 3rd for a five point 4th.

What/who stood out: The Titans forced 23 turnovers…they were out rebounded by 10, the first time this season…13 fouls gave the Titans their seventh straight game with fewer than 20.

Mya India Thomas ties a career-high with 28 points (she's done it three times)…Megan Fossen had 13 points and 11 rebounds, her fourth double-double of the season.

What it means: The Titans remain in first place at 5-0 in the south and 17-1 overall. Umpqua and Chemeketa are tied for 2nd at 4-1.

What's next: The Titans play at Linn-Benton (8-9, 2-3) Wednesday, Jan. 23 at 5:30 p.m.
