The Titans played without starting forward Aolani Talamaivao-Calderon and gained a 30-point lead in the 3rd in a 76-49 victory over Chemeketa.
How it happened: The Storm opened the game with the first four points and the Titans didn't score until the 6-minute mark of the 1st quarter. The Titans would end the quarter on a 20-4 run.
Emma Jones had three points, three assists and two rebounds off the bench; Megan Still lead all scorers with seven points, and she added three steals, two rebounds and a block. The Titans held the Storm to 36.4 percent shooting and the Titans shot 47.4 percent.
The Titans got their first 20-point lead with 1:30 remaining in the 2nd quarter, 36-16. Megan Fossen would close the quarter with a jump shot to give the Titans a 38-16 advantage.
Megan Fossen carried the Titans in the 2nd; scoring nine points, grabbing three rebounds and recording an assist and block. Fossen made four of the seven Titan field goals. Kalina Rojas had five points and two rebounds.
The only thing the Titans didn't do well in the quarter was defend without fouling; they held the storm to 16.7 percent shooting but allowed nine free throws attempts due to eight fouls.
The 3rd quarter started slowly until Mya India Thomas made a three with 7:42 remaining. The first 30-point lead came with 4:52 remaining, 49-19, after Megan Still made a three.
The Storm cut their deficit to 24 with 1:54 to go, but the Titans finished on an 8-0 run.
The Titans cut their fouls down to five but allowed 41.7 percent shooting. The Titans only shot 38.1 percent but seven offensive rebounds and 5-9 shooting from three allowed the Titans to win the 3rd 22-12.
Megan Still had nine points, three rebounds, one assist and steal; Mya India Thomas had eight points, three steals and two assists; Megan Fossen had three of the seven offensive rebounds.
The Titans had a very lackluster 4th, allowing the Storm to cut the lead to 24 until Maddy Carrier made a three with 16 seconds remaining.
The Titans allowed 52.9 percent shooting and shot 25 percent.
Meagan Briggs had two points, four rebounds and two assists before fouling out; Mya India Thomas added six points and two rebounds.
What/who stood out: The Titans went from shooting 50 percent in the 1st half to shooting to just over 30 percent in the 2nd. They also allowed 48 percent shooting in the 2nd half after allowing only 24 percent shooting in the 1st.
The Titans had 25 assists on 29 made field goals; they assisted on 82 percent of their baskets, a season-high; they were plus 17 on the glass and plus 10 on the offensive glass.
Megan Fossen came up big in the absence of Aolani Talamaivao-Calderon, grabbing a career-high 12 rebounds and adding 14 points, three assists and a steal. Mya India Thomas and Megan Still combined for 30 points on 8-19 shooting from three.
After Kylie Guelsdorf got into foul trouble, Emma Jones stepped in and ran the point, contributing five points, six assists, five rebounds and a steal.
What it means: It was the Southern Region opener for both teams, so for the first time this season the win counts towards the playoffs and moves the Titans to 13-1 overall and 1-0 in league.
What's next: The Titans face their first road test at Clark (2-10, 0-1) on Saturday at 2 p.m.
