The Titans got by defending champions Walla Walla and reached the Pierce Holiday Invitational final in the process, 66-60.

How it happened: In the 1^st quarter both teams shot below 40 percent from the field and the Titans two free throw attempts were the only of the quarter from either side. Despite the low shooting percentage, the Titans scored the first nine points, but Walla Walla responded with the next six. The Titans would take a 14-6 lead into the 2^nd.

Megan Still had three points, three steals, two rebounds and an assist in the quarter. The Titans as a whole only had four turnovers and the Warriors had seven.

The Titans gained an 11-point lead after an Aolani Talamaivao-Calderon jump shot with 9:02 in the 2^nd. The Warriors responded with a run to tie it at 27 with 1:06 left. After a Walla Walla free throw the half ended, with the Titans leading 29-28.

The 3^rd quarter started with a Walla Walla jump shot to give the Warriors their first lead. After a run to end the quarter, the Titans led 51-42.

The 4^th quarter started with a Meagan Briggs jump shot and the Titans had a double-digit lead. The Titans weathered a few Warrior runs that cut it to a one possession game with 4:02, but the Titans pulled out a 66-60 victory.

The Titans shot 30 percent from the floor in the quarter and allowed Walla Walla to shoot 66.7 percent on 8-12 shooting. The Titans were able to hold their lead due to a plus eight mark at the free throw line.

What/who stood out: The Titans shot 28.6 from three and committed more turnovers than assists (20-16), but a plus seven advantage at the stripe and plus four on the glass helped the Titans work through their struggles.

Meagan Briggs scored a game and season high 16 points (career high 17) and was a perfect 7-7 from the field in 20 minutes. Megan Still continued to contribute across the board, scoring 15 points, grabbing six rebounds, recording five steals and dishing one assist.

What it means: The Titans have now won two games since their loss to Lower Columbia. They are now 6-1 and 2-1 away from Titan Coliseum.

What's next: They play Columbia Basin at 2 p.m. on Sunday. The Hawks beat Clackamas, 72-57, in the game that followed the Titans. The 72 points against Clackamas was a season high for Columbia Basin. The Hawks are led by Alexis Castro and Sara Ramirez, who average 20 and 16.9 ppg respectively.
