Eugene, Ore. - Giovanni "Gino" Brown is from Erie, Pennsylvania. He participated in various sports in high school but found success in track and field and graduated as the team most valuable player.

Between high school and college he had the idea to compete in the decathlon.  While training Gino met Jeff Hoskins who introduced him to coaching youth track and field at Emerald Valley Track Club. Gino coached multi-events and jumpers at EVTC from 2014-18.

In 2019 Jeff and Gino began a new club called New World Track Club and have already produced a United States of America Track and Field (USATF) all-American heptathlete.

As a collegiate athlete he competed as a freshman for the Titans as a walk-on in 2014. He was a junior college all-American in the decathlon while placing third in the then Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges (NWAACC) and scored in other individual events at the championships.

After redshirting in 2015 due to a shoulder injury, Gino maintained a 4.1 GPA and graduated and transferred to NCAA Division II Concordia University in Portland, Ore. on a full scholarship.

At Concordia Gino studied secondary education with an endorsement in chemistry.

During his junior season's, Gino's teams would win the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) indoor and outdoor conference titles.

In 2019 as a senior, Gino broke all of his person records as a decathlete and became the first person in GNAC history to break the indoor heptathlete shot put and 1000-meters records in the same meet.

He broke the school decathlon scoring record for a fifth time at the GNAC outdoor championships with 7007 points and broke the record for the 1500-meters and qualified for the national championships. He also finished second in the 110-meter hurdles, third in the triple jump and finished seventh on the 4x400-meters relay team during the championships.

At the national championships Gino placed 10th in the decathlon and won the discus and 1500-meters events.

Gino graduated Concordia University Magna Cum Laude in 2019. He received the award for the "outstanding graduate of the year." He was nominated as the best dressed male athlete. He was academic all-conference selection and male athlete of the year.
