LCC Men's Basketball Head Coach Joe White Moving On, Matt Zosel Named Interim Head Coach

EUGENE, Ore. -- After only one season as head men's basketball coach at Lane Community College, Joe White has resigned to accept an assistant coaching position at Idaho State University.

"It is with great appreciation and a heavy heart that I am moving on from my role at Lane Community College," White said. "I have enjoyed my short time at Lane and will forever be grateful for this chapter in my life.  This was a dream job for me.  It took a lot of thought and prayer to accept this new challenge in my life.''

White compiled a 27-4 record in his lone season as LCC's head coach and guided his squad to the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) Southern Division title. The Titans reached the semifinals of the NWAC Championship tournament and placed third.

"We want to thank Joe for the time and energy he brought to this program," said Director of Athletics Greg Sheley. "He is a dedicated and hard working coach who raised the level of expectation on the court and in the classroom. He will be greatly missed."

Lane has appointed Matt Zosel as interim head men's basketball coach. Zosel served as White's top assistant during the 2018-19 season. Previously, he served as a graduate assistant men's basketball coach at the University of Oregon from 2016-18.

"I am excited and honored to represent Lane Community College as their new head men's basketball coach," said Zosel.

Zosel is no stranger to the Titan family as he was a member of the Lane men's basketball team that finished runner up in the NWAC Championship tournament in 1999.

"Matt will continue to build upon the foundation that was built by Joe. He has a tremendous work ethic and strong recruiting ties within the basketball community," said Sheley.

Zosel attended Marshfield High School, Lane Community College and graduated from Southern Oregon with a BS in History. While at SOU, he was a three-time NAIA Academic All American. Upon graduation, Zosel enlisted in the Army and spent eight years with the 75th Ranger Regiment.

Lane is an AA/EEO/Veterans/Disabilities Employer
