The Titans had to battle to avoid a 2-game losing streak in a 94-87 victory at Clark.
How it happened: The Titans got down early again, losing by seven only 2:48 into the game. The Titans would battle back and take an 18-16 lead with 13:06 remain.
The game would go back and forth until the 9:42 mark when Cody Mathis made a jump shot and the Titans started an 18-6 run and a 42-30 lead with 4:58 remaining.
The Titans led by as many as 13 in the final two minutes and took a 12-point lead into half, 49-37.
The Titans shot 51.6 percent from the field, but 59.1 percent from three and 13 made threes were the difference. The Titans were plus 18 from behind the arch, but minus eight on the glass.
Tashon Brown made his first start since the season opener and he delivered 15 points and two assists; Tarik Cool had 14 points on four made threes.
The 2nd half spelled another slow start for the Titans, they were outscored 11-3 in the first 3:05 and saw their lead cut to four.
Cody Mathis converted an and-one and Lucas Wilson made a jump shot to extend the lead to nine, five minutes into the half.
The Penguins went on a 10-2 run over the next three plus minutes to erase the lead and tie the game at 59 with 11:34 remaining.
Both teams exchanged smaller runs with thr game still tied, this time at 72 with 7:16 remaining.
Rodney Hounshell made a three with 4:48 remaining to give the Titans their double-digit lead back, 83-73.
The Penguins didn't fold but were never able to close the gap closer than two possessions.
The Titans shooting percentage was virtually the same, 48.1 percent, but their three-point shooting fell off from 13 makes to five threes. The real reason, though, the Penguins made the game competitive were the 24 free throw attempts; that luckily for the Titans only cost them 17 points and a manageable minus three in the category.
Tarik Cool had 17 points and Lucas Wilson followed as the only other Titans in double-figures with 11.
What/who stood out: The Titans have now committed 20 or more fouls in all but one NWAC game this season after 21 today; the Titans continued to take care of the ball with their second game with single-digit turnovers and have not committed more than 15 all season; despite making 18 threes, it was not a season-high, they had 21 in their record setting game at Multnomah J.V.
Tashon Brown had 15 points and got the start after sparking the Titans to nearly a comeback win two days ago; Tarik Cool tied a career-high with 31 points and made a career-high seven threes; Lucas Wilson had 16 points in 23 minutes due to four fouls.
What it means: The Titans avoid a scary 0-2 start and move to 13-2 overall and 1-1 in the south. The Titans are tied with Mt. Hood at 1-1 and are only one game back of two 2-0 teams.
What's next: The Titans travel to what probably is the most difficult place to play in the Southern Region due to the long drive and small noisy environment at SWOCC (5-9, 0-2) this Wednesday Jan. 9 at 7:30 p.m.
